Housesitting
Housesitting usually means staying at someone’s house and looking after after their pets while they are away. Some sitter charge, but we find it mutually beneficial for the owners and ourselves to provide free housesitting. Here are a few websites we use to find sits. We have also found sits via local Facebook groups.
This is one of the biggest housesitting sites. You can find sits all over the world. It can get pretty competitive, especially in popular areas. They also have a great App.
You can usually browse before paying for a subscription. A basic sitter membership is $129USD as of June 2022. You can get 25% off by using our link.
This is a much smaller site with less sits, but also less competition. We have had some of our favorite sits from this site.
You can create a free account to browse then sign up for 45 Euro as of June 2022.
Nomador is mainly Europe based, with a lot of French speaking owners and sitters. There are still English speakers on there as well.
A sitter membership as of June 2022 is $99 USD.
Other Resources
We will continue to add to this list, and more than likely create other groups as we find more and more helpful resources.
This is the credit card we use the most. We never thought we would have a card with $395 annual fee, but we receive more back than that per you. You one trip per year that is at least $395 or more it pays for itself if you book at least $300 of flights or accommodations through their competitively priced portal.
One of our favorite features if you fly a lot is their lounge access for you and a guest, via Priority Pass. Free airport food!
Check out their sign up promotions through our link.
We often get asked what do we do for cellular data, and how do we stay connected to friends and businesses back home. That deserves a whole blog post in itself.
We either buy a local SIM card or use an eSIM. Many smart phone now come with a built-in eSIM. You sign up with a third party, and with a toggle in your settings, you have data as soon as you land in a new country.
The price of eSIMs have dropped a lot in the past 5 years. There are many to choose from, but we have used Airalo as needed with great success. Sign up here, and use code KELLI6922 when you sign up at checkout for $3 off your first eSIM.
When helping us to determine if we should get a local SIM card or an eSIM, Kelli likes to use this site to help determine the costs of SIM cards and coverage in different countries.
This site has most countries and the cost of their pre-paid cards, which is what we usually use as a tourist.
